Three ways to safely volunteer as a team
Volunteering has changed in the face of the pandemic, but there are still safe ways to positively impact your community as a team. Community outreach is more important than ever with so many people and organizations impacted by COVID-19.
Support your local food bank
According to Feeding America, more than 42 million people, including 13 million children, may be at risk of hunger. Food banks across our nation are still grappling to keep up with the increased number of American families struggling to keep food on the table. Of course, donations are always appreciated. However, many of these organizations are also in need of drivers now that home deliveries and mobile pantries have become a preferred option to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Organize a food drive at work and invite team members to donate food or to deliver pantry essentials to local food banks.
Donate blood or plasma
Blood and plasma donations are down due to canceled blood drives around the country. Plasma donations are needed from healthy individuals who had COVID-19 and had a strong immune response. Help your local Red Cross and American Association of Blood Banks replenish their precious reserves. Designate a timeframe for team members to conveniently schedule an appointment to donate during the day.
Donate money to help those in need
There are numerous nonprofit organizations supporting individuals on the frontlines combating COVID-19. With Charity Navigator, your organization can pool resources and donate with peace of mind that all the money you give is being used to help those who need it the most.
COVID-19 has changed volunteerism, but the immense need for volunteers has not changed. Organizing a corporate initiative to give back is a powerful way to boost company morale and strengthen team bonds. Celebrate National Volunteer Month—take action as a team and make volunteerism a vital component of your company culture.
