From noise to narrative: Building the stories that drive co-sell

Team of people sitting around table listening to woman leading discussion

Situation

Our technology clients can often talk at length about what their product does, but not all can clearly articulate the narrative of why it matters and why their solution is unique, especially to a partner seller who has ten other conversations that day and no time for a features walkthrough. This makes getting sellers to champion the product a challenge.

Insight

Before engaging Knack Collective, clients typically arrive with one or more of these gaps:

  • A product-first story that leads with capabilities instead of customer outcomes

  • Misaligned messaging across field, partner, and marketing teams with everyone saying something slightly different

  • No clear joint value proposition that articulates what the partner + vendor story is better together

  • A co-sell motion that exists on paper but doesn’t move because sellers don’t have the right language or resources to open the conversation

Solution

Knack Collective leads clients through a virtual, moderated discovery and workshop process, across two to four sessions, designed to extract, align, and activate the right narrative.

  • Discovery: We dig into the real customer pain points, the partner go-to-market context, and what “winning” looks like for both sides of the partnership.

  • Workshopping: From discovery we build the workshop materials and guide the in-depth discussion across key stakeholders from marketing, sales, and product. We invite challenges and disagreements in real time to get to promises, pillars, and proof points everyone aligns on and feels confident carrying forward.

  • Messaging architecture: From the workshop, we build a joint value proposition and messaging framework, sometimes called a Joint Value Proposition (JVP) or Messaging and Positioning Framework (MPF). This output aligns around the outcomes customers care about.

  • Offer & motion design: With messaging in place, we define the co-sell offer: what it is, who it’s for, when to use it, and how it connects to the broader partner motion.

  • Enablement activation: We convert the messaging pillars into field-ready enablement assets so sellers have the language, the stories, and the tools to put it to work immediately.

Success

We’ve led this process with 10+ organizations across the partner ecosystem from large-scale GSIs and distributors to ISVs building their first co-sell motion.

This includes partners like Pax8, Insight, Aveva, Cloudera, and many others.

Across these engagements, the pattern is consistent: When partners lead with outcomes and build toward product—rather than the other way around—conversations open faster, co-sell motions gain traction, and sellers actually use the materials.
