Breaking that old glass ceiling
Co-founders Catherine Bye and Mariah Lincoln founded Knack Collective in order to inspire greater equity and humanity in business, successfully wagering that diversity and inclusion are indeed excellent business fuel. Based on these differentiators—and the outstanding work that resulted—Knack Collective quickly took off and gained status as an agency. Before it was a year old, Knack reached a $3.4M revenue milestone which is reached by fewer than 1.6% of women-owned businesses.
As many great things are forged in challenging settings, Bye and Lincoln joined forces after working for nearly a decade within agency cultures that stifled them by operating within elitist and conformist versions of the status quo. Catherine was passed up for multiple promotions because (she was told) “she needed to be more likeable” or she was on the “mommy track.” Mariah had been informed that she needed to be “vague” with her clients about her sexuality; she was told to carry a purse to appear straight.
Founding Knack Collective was their solution when they could no longer be a part of a system driven by privileged white males who demonstrated an astounding lack of inclusivity, flexibility, and allowance for individuality. They are one of only 0.1% creative agencies founded by women in the US, and as such, Bye and Lincoln are ready to help break this and many more outdated business norms.
